Our top tips for the perfect pancakes

Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday is a globally celebrated day, where people from across the world make pancakes for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or all three!

But there is a certain art to making pancakes and everyone has a different preference for the toppings they use.

Below are our top tips for making the perfect pancakes, no matter how you like yours!

Keep your baking powder fresh

Using baking powder that is old or even expired will mean your pancakes end up flat and thin instead of fluffy and light.

So make sure to check your baking powder’s expiration date before getting started on your delicious pancakes!

Add a small amount of vanilla extract to your mixture

For baking, a dash of vanilla is an essential part of the puzzle, just like salt is a critical ingredient when cooking.

For that extra flavour, vanilla extract is a great addition to any pancake recipe.

Have your toppings ready

Fresh pancakes will always taste the best, so don’t waste time any time before tucking in.

Fruit should be cut, the cream whipped, butter softened and anything else out on your kitchen counter ready for you to plate up and serve.

Your toppings should be waiting for the pancakes, not the other way around!

Flip your pancakes at the perfect time

Don’t flip your pancakes too early…

Your pancakes should ideally be around two-thirds cooked by the time you flip them as the edges should be more solid. You should also make sure the pancake has fully risen on one side before flipping.

Patience is key, you will enjoy them more if you wait!
