Spring into cleaning this season

The season where flowers begin to bloom and the natural world revives after the colder winter months is here, which for many people, is also the time to start spring cleaning!

With that thought in mind, we wanted to share some of our handy tips to get that fresh and shiny feel to the kitchen – with an eco-friendly twist!

The cleaning order should follow this plan:

  • First up, the interior
  • Secondly, the appliances
  • Thirdly, the exterior
  • Lastly, the floor

Here are our top eco-friendly kitchen cleaning tips:

Get some plant-based soap

Not only is plant-based soap more eco-friendly and ocean-friendly, but its natural ingredients are also better for your skin – especially those with sensitive skin or disorders.

But do not worry, the plant-based ingredients do not comprise the quality and can work well to remove grime and grease. For example, soak the filter of your vent hood in hot water and soap to make it shine again.

Invest in reusable cloths

Rather than wasting your money on a kitchen towel, which ends up in landfill, why not purchase some reusable cloths to clean down surfaces? Just put them in with your weekly wash to clean them!

Baking soda and lemon – the perfect combination

Use a half-cut lemon dipped in salt or baking soda to scrub your wooden cutting boards to get rid of stains and odours. You can use this method for metal surfaces too, such as stainless steel and copper pans, to make them shine and be grime-free.

How else can you use baking soda?

Baking soda is great for eliminating odours, even ones in the fridge! Place an open box at the back of your fridge and let it do all the work – soaking up bad smells. Then, change it every three months!

Go green!

Ever wondered how to get rid of pests? Well, these following plants are good repellents for your kitchen and some you can cook with too:

  • Basil
  • Common marigold
  • Lavender
  • Lemon balm
  • Rosemary
  • Sage
