Preparing for the Platinum Jubilee

With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee just two days away, now is the time to get your kitchen in order, ready for a long weekend of celebrations!

Because, after all, while the novelty of having two days off is exciting, it can be overwhelming to organise a garden party or whatever style of event you have chosen.

Therefore, we have listed some ways to prepare below.

Step 1 – Make room

Having people around is a lovely way to spend the bank holiday weekend, but it also calls for more space in the kitchen for food, drinks, and any other items people bring with them.

You also don’t want the risk of any of your kitchenware breaking, so we suggest decluttering your kitchen surfaces and only placing items on there that you will use during the gathering.

Step 2 – Raise the buntings

We think this is the fun part – putting up the decorations!

If you opt for buntings, measure your space so they are neat enough for the Queen!

But be cautious of where the decorations are hung, as you don’t want them to get in the way of food or drink preparation or even become a fire hazard.

Try and see what eco-friendly decorations are available too to reduce waste.

We suggest doing all this cleaning prep and decorating the evening before, so you can focus on the food and getting in the festive feel on the day of the jubilee!

Lastly, consider adding some blue, red, and white candles and flowers to finish off the look.

Step 3 – Make sure you are stocked

When throwing any celebration, it is crucial to ensure you are stocked with the essential items, beverages, and food. Below, are some to consider:

  • Cutlery and serving spoons
  • Plates for eating
  • Serving plates
  • Napkins
  • Variation of glasses for drinks – flutes/tumblers etc.
  • Jugs
  • Cake stands
  • Ramekins and other serving bowls
  • Water (cucumber and mint optional)
  • Ice

Step 4 – Get creative

Now that you have some free time after prepping for the party, get creative by trying new things. If you are a sweet lover, test out some delicious recipes such as Victoria sponge muffins, Cherry Bakewell tarts, or a salted caramel fudge cake!

Alternatively, if cakes aren’t your thing – get experimenting with cocktails!

Some of our favourites we have seen include:

  • Pimm’s slushie
  • Apple and elderflower gin cocktail
  • English garden cocktail
  • Cherries jubilee
  • Her Majesty’s Cup punch

Congratulations on getting this far! Organising a party can take a lot of work and effort. So, reward yourself with some royal treatment!
